Anthony “Tugboat Tony” Savas (Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel)

WILMINGTON — Anthony “Tugboat Tony” Savas, 83, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026.

He was born July 28, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Emmanuel Savas and Despina Tsatsaronis Savas.

Tony was owner of a tugboat business, Petchem Inc., based in Cape Canaveral FL, and later opened Tugboat Tony’s Bagel Cafe, in downtown Wilmington. Most of all, he loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his sister, Markela Papazoglou; her husband, Yiannis Papazoglou; and brother, Gus Savas.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Savas; children, Michael Savas, Christine Sampson (Jimmy) and Stephanie Sheehan (Mike); grandchildren, Dylan, Kemp, Marcus, Julian, Brock and Desmond; brother, Alex Savas (Laurie); and sister, Ourania Kamvakis (Steve).
