WILMINGTON — Ellen Elizabeth Todd Prevatte, age 100, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, in Wilmington, NC.
Born on October 8, 1925, Ellen was the only child of Myrtle Belle Reed Todd and Samual Greer Todd. Raised in Darlington, SC, she was an avid race car fan. After the premature passing of her father in 1946, Ellen became the sole provider for herself and her mother.
Ellen graduated from Blackstone College in Virginia and returned home to Darlington and worked at the Dixie Cup plant as a secretary. She was wooed by the local radio station DJ, Ted Yates Prevatte who dedicated songs to her throughout the day. They married on August 17, 1957, and had two children.
Ellen was active in the Lutheran Church in Raleigh, NC and eventually Kure Beach NC, where she and Ted retired in 1994.
She will be remembered for the kindness she shared, the love she gave freely, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Her presence brought comfort, strength, and warmth to family and friends alike.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ted.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Michele Dew (Donnie) and Reed Prevatte (Teresa) and her grandchildren and spouses, Cameron Prevatte (Chelsea), Christopher Dew (Madison), and Alex Prevatte (Samantha).
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well lived and a woman who made the world brighter through her kindness and love. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A time of visitation with family and friends will start at 10 am Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the Kure Memorial Lutheran Church in Kure Beach, NC.
Her funeral service will be at 11 am Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Kure Memorial Lutheran Church in Kure Beach, NC. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington.
