John Christopher Parisi, 83

John Christopher Parisi (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — John C. Parisi, affectionately known as Jack, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 1, 2026. He was 83 years old.

Born on March 20, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, Jack was the son of the late John Christopher Parisi and Helen Starkie Parisi.

As a determined young man, he requested to enlist in the military before his 18th birthday. He served multiple tours of duty across the United States, the Philippines, and Germany, earning an honorable discharge.

He then joined the New York City Police Department, serving as an officer in Manhattan for many years. Jack’s dedication to his work supported his young family while they lived in North Babylon, New York, until on-the-job injuries led to his retirement.

In 1979, seeking a better life and a slower pace for his growing family, Jack moved them to Leland/Belville, North Carolina. There, he built a loving home and created lasting memories.

October 14, 1963, Jack married the love of his life, Joan Claire Downie (1944–2013). They shared nearly 50 years of marriage until her passing in 2013, during the year of their golden anniversary. Jack often spoke of their life together with deep affection and pride.

He is survived by his three children: DawnAnne Parisi Roberts (Joel), Christopher M. Parisi (Ligia), and Daniel E. Parisi.

Jack cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, finding immense joy and pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren — Ian Sullivan (Lindsay, son Nash), Katie Kiel (CJ, son Everett, daughter Rosina), John Parisi (Sydney, son Carter, daughter Chloe), Alyssa Parisi, and Hali Parisi.

He was also deeply loved by many nieces, nephews, and their children, who warmly called him “Uncle Amazing.”

Jack was a man of simple pleasures and strong character: an avid golfer, a dedicated gardener, a loyal friend, and a kind neighbor. His warmth, sense of humor, and steady presence touched everyone who knew him.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and a true gentleman who always put his family first.

Jack’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered comfort, prayers, and support during this time. He was well loved by many and will be truly missed.
