SOUTHPORT — Christine Spendley, 71, of Southport, NC formerly of Matawan, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, “Brunswick House” following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 24, 1954, Christine was one of three daughters born to the late Manuel and Mary Vila Torrens.
Christine attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Traphagen School of Design in New York City, where she developed her passion for art and design. She began her career as an illustrator for Parade Dress Company in Manhattan. Christine later moved to La Coruña, Spain, where she owned and operated two boutique stores and raised her children, embracing the culture and community that became such an important part of her life.
After returning to the United States, she worked for many years as a dedicated Beauty Advisor with CVS Health in New Jersey. She retired in 2024 and relocated to Southport with her husband, Michael, where they began a new chapter together.
Surviving are her husband and soulmate, Michael Spendley; two sons, Manuel Larino (Isabel), David Larino (Raquel); a daughter, Cristina Larino (Jose Ramon Torreiro) all of Spain; a step-daughter, Jessica Spendley; two sisters, Maria Amabille (Tony), Lisa Koykas (Gene); two beloved grandchildren, Isabel and Julia; a cousin, Mercedes Gonzalez.
A celebration of life service is being planned for New Jersey and will be announced here when complete.
