WILMINGTON — Michael “Mickey” Anthony Blue, 76, of Leland, NC, formerly of Great Meadows, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2026, at the Davis Health Care Center in Wilmington.
He was born on September 15, 1949, in Newark, NJ and lived in East Newark, Hudson County, until he joined the military, to the late Anthony Blue and the late Winifred Crawford Blue.
Mickey graduated from Queen of Peace High school in 1967, located in North Arlington, NJ. During high school, Mickey was a skilled musician in piano and accordion and played in a band (The Four Echoes) for weddings and other events and competed in band competitions.
1968-1969 – Completed two-year program in aviation mechanics at Teterboro School of Aeronautics in Teterboro, NJ
1969-1973 – Served in the United States Air Force during the height of the Vietnam war servicing and repairing B-52 bomber aircraft with tours in Guam, Okinawa, Philippines, and Turkey.
Mickey also served in the Army Reserves and the Air Force Reserves with 23 years combined military service, retiring in 2010. During this time, he also attended New Jersey Institute of Technology to study mechanical engineering, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and then continued his education to obtain his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management. During this time, he started MAB Construction Company, buying properties and building houses, and doing various home improvement projects.
After obtaining his degrees, Mickey was also employed as an engineer for Chugach Government Solutions based in Picatinny Arsenal.
Mickey is survived by his son, Jamie Blue; his sisters, Susan Porter and her husband, Ken, Elaine Russo and her husband, Henry; his grandchildren, Christopher, James, Alexander; his nephews, Eric Porter, Gary Porter, David Russo; his nieces, Kimberly Porter, Cherlyn Russo, Diane Russo-Cheng; and a host extended family and friends who were loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, Mickey was also preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Blue.
