WILMINGTON — As a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother, Eunice Hope Johnson passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, in Whiteville, NC.
During her 91 years here, Eunice’s life reflected the Living Hope that dwelled within her, as a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on February 23, 1935, in Mt. Olive, NC, Eunice lived a life filled with steadfast love for her family, selfless service for others, and a gentle yet strong faith for God.
She was raised in Wilmington, and met her husband of 57 years, BJ, and was a devoted wife and mother. For 28 years, Eunice worked with skill and commitment as a professional seamstress at Blocks Shirt Manufacturers. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail were admired by her friends and family alike. She loved doing for others and many will remember her great cooking—especially her pecan pies and homemade biscuits!
A dedicated and faithful member of Livingston Baptist Church in Delco, Eunice’s faith was a guiding light in her life, and she nurtured life-long friendships and spiritual growth. It was at her time at Livingston that she met and married her second husband, Royce Johnson to whom she was married for 14 years.
Eunice was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Hope Harrington; her first husband, Bartow Jefferson Johnson, Jr.; and her son, Donnie Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Royce Johnson, and four children: Elaine Cobb (Chester) of Raleigh, Jeff Johnson (Cris) of Hampstead, Debbie McDonald (David) of King, NC, and Sharon Griffin (Matthew) of Delco. Eunice also leaves behind eight adoring grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephanie, Daniel, Diana, Bryan, Jeremy, Micah, and Abigail; as well as six great-grandchildren: Elitia, Corbin, Nevaeh, Madison, Dare, and Alexander and half sister, Ann Russ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Livingston Baptist Church or the Angel House Hospice Care Center in Whiteville, NC.
Eunice Johnson’s legacy of love, faith, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
