WILMINGTON — Richard Joseph Nagy passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from complications of exposure to Agent Orange while serving in the Vietnam War.

Richard was born on August 17, 1944, in Warren Ohio, the son of Anna (Duda) and Frank Nagy. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1962. He received his bachelor degree from Youngstown University in 1967 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army where he served in the Quartermaster Corps. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was promoted to Captain and served as an instructor at Fort Lee, Virginia.

Richard married his sweetheart Susanne (Griesmer) on October 4, 1969. Upon his honorable discharge in 1971, Dick worked for Ohio Edison for over 30 years as general manager of various offices in the region. Richard was active in many civic organizations including Lions Club, Rotary International and the Knights of Columbus. After his retirement, he and Susanne moved to the Wilmington, NC area where they remained active in their community.

Richard’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, his son David of Bunkie, Louisiana, daughter Elizabeth of Leland, NC, and two grandchildren, Gabby and River. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald.

A private memorial service will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a future date.
