LELAND — Patricia Rowland Cross, age 94, a longtime member of the Leland Community, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her family on Monday February 23, 2026. Born on July 20, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, she lived a full and meaningful life enriched by her family, community, and passions.
Throughout her career, Pat demonstrated dedication and kindness in various roles, including her work most notably at Wilmington Saving and Trust Bank, Efird’s Department Store, and Sophia V. West Florist. Her professional life was marked by a commitment to helping others and a steadfast work ethic.
Pat had a profound love for gardening, boasting a “Green Thumb” that brought joy to all who knew her. Her vegetable and flower gardens were a source of pride, and she delighted in sharing her abundant harvest with family, neighbors, and friends. Her generosity and warmth extended beyond her garden into every aspect of her life.
A longtime member of Woodburn Presbyterian Church in Leland, NC, Pat served her congregation faithfully in many capacities, including as an Elder for many years. Her devotion to her faith and community was unwavering, and she touched the lives of many through her service.
Pat was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dock Jerome Rowland and Margie Miller Rowland, her sister Nancy R. Fish; and her cherished husband of 42 years, James Edmund Cross, who passed away on June 24, 1992.
She is survived by her loving children: Mike Cross and wife Linda of Wilmington, NC; Karen Cross and life partner William R. Atkins, of Southport, NC; Cheryl Mintz and husband Rev. Murray Mintz of Reidsville, NC; and Jamie Cross of Ashboro, NC. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brian Cross and wife Christy, Cameron Getman and husband Kevin, Murray R. Mintz, III fiancée Michelle Bissett, Elizabeth Lamm and husband Tyler; and her precious great-grandchildren Coleman Cross, Saylor Cross, Airlie Getman, Jack Getman, Logan St. Cyr, Westin Lamm and Cheyenne Lamm; one niece Tracy Fish and husband Paul. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family members and many dear friends.
A special thank you to her personal caregivers, Nadine Pirozzolo and Francesca Spero, Dr. Bourne and the entire PICU Staff at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, led by Rev. Jay Coker and Rev. T. Worrell. Burial was private at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, beside her beloved husband.
