WILMINGTON — Ernest Ray Johnson, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the age of 77.
He was born in Wilmington, NC on New Year’s Eve in 1948 to the late Leon George Johnson and Hazel Johnson of Wilmington, NC.
He was a loving father to two daughters, Tammy J. Winner (Walter W. Winner II) and Beverly A. Johnson (Roger Listebarger) all of Wilmington, NC. He was a grandfather to Walter W. Winner III, age 22 and Jewelyn
Casey Listebarger, age 10.
Ernest treasured his time spent with family and friends and hosted many fish fry’s, clam bakes and oyster roasts. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for saltwater fishing. When he wasn’t on the water you could find him working in his yard or tending to his garden.
Through his profession as a carpenter, Ernest, built many homes in New Hanover and surrounding counties. He was always lending a helping hand to a friend or neighbor with building projects. Born of a strong work ethic, he lead by example.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date where family and friends will gather to honor and remember him.
