WILMINGTON — Patricia Ann McFarland, born on January 30, 1940, in Cumberland, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 86.
Patricia was a devoted homemaker who lovingly dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a woman of varied interests, enjoying the intricacies of needlepoint and the camaraderie of bridge. Her love for travel took her to the lush landscapes of Ireland and on scenic train journeys across the provinces of Canada.
A woman of faith, Patricia was a devoted member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland, Maryland. She pursued her education with determination, graduating from Catholic Girls Central High School before earning her Bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University, both located in her home state of Maryland.
Patricia is preceded in death by her beloved parents, William and Camille Sherman; her sister, Barbara Tinker; her cherished husband, Denny McFarland, who passed away in March 1980; and her dear son, Stephen McFarland.
She leaves behind a loving family that includes her two daughters, Melissa Berry of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Tracy Haller and her husband Tim of Las Vegas, Nevada. Patricia was a proud grandmother to Zach Walker, and Olivia and Cameron Berry, all of whom will deeply miss her gentle spirit and unwavering love.
Private family services are being planned to honor Patricia’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, an organization that was dear to Patricia’s heart.
Patricia Ann McFarland will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
