WILMINGTON — Susan Norris Ramsey died January 22, 2026, in Wilmington, NC. Susan was born on June 26, 1947, to Roger Norris and Charlotte Meier Norris. Roger died in 1959. Susan was raised by her mother on Princess Street in Wilmington.
Susan attended the public schools in Wilmington where her mother was the director of nurses for the Board of Education. She enjoyed a childhood surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins, most of whom lived in Wilmington. She graduated from New Hanover High School, Class of 1965. She then attended Wilmington College, now UNC-W, and graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1969.
Susan married Jerry Wayne Ramsey in 1969. Their son Matt was born in 1981. Jerry was the Executive Director of the Cape Fear Council of Governments. The family lived at Wrightsville Beach. Susan and Jerry enjoyed sailing. They hosted many parties for their extended family that now included Lt. Col. Alfred “Wes” Magee, a career carrier pilot in the USN in both WWII and the Korean Conflict, whom her mother had remarried. They will also be remembered for their Scottish Terrier “Duffy” who was the life of many of the parties. Jerry died in 1990.
Susan was a teacher at Pender Academy for 18 years, where she was loved and adored by her students. Pender Academy closed and Susan began a career as a floral designer with Julia’s Florist. She also worked for Target Stores. Later, she went to work for Sweet Nectar’s Florist in Leland. Her co-workers were like family to her and a special thanks to all of them for their friendship and support of Susan.
Susan is survived by her son Matt Ramsey, wife Christina, and granddaughter Clara Maultsby of Wilmington, her granddaughter Bella Ramsey of Sparta, NC, her aunts Jacqueline O’Neil of Key Biscayne, FL and Hilda Simon of Wilmington, her cousins Anne Harriss (Herb), Charles Meier (Terri) and Richard Meier, all of Wilmington, Henry Meier, Jr. (Lori) of Kalamazoo, MI, Kathy Eden of Chapel Hill, NC and Molly Baringer (Warner) of Key Biscayne, FL. Also, her beloved friend and Jerry’s cousin, Theresa Ivey (Ben) of Wilmington, who provided her with comfort and care in her final days.
Susan was predeceased by her mother, Charlotte Magee, Charlotte’s husband, Lt. Col. Alfred “Wes” Magee, her father, Roger Norris, her husband, Jerry Wayne Ramsey, and uncles F.L. (“Tanky”) Meier, Jr., and his wife Phyllis, Henry Meier, and John O’Neil.
A memorial service will be held on Friday January 30, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Andrews Mortuary Chapel, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401, with the Rev. Deacon Rhonda Thomas presiding. Interment (private) will be at Oakdale Cemetery.
