WILMINGTON — Debra Brownie Shelley, affectionately known as “Debie,” passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Leland, NC, at the age of 63. Born on May 11, 1962, in Wilmington, NC, Debie lived a life marked by resilience, generosity, and an unwavering love for those around her.
Debie dedicated her professional life to the field of logistics, where she worked as a logistics manager for Loadmatch, a shipping company, until her retirement. Her career was characterized by her diligent work ethic and her ability to handle complex challenges with grace and efficiency.
Her passions extended beyond her career, as she cherished spending time with her family and friends. Debie had a special place in her heart for her beloved cats, who were her constant companions and brought her immense joy. Known for her thoughtful nature, she delighted in giving meaningful gifts, always ensuring that those around her felt loved and appreciated.
A double survivor of esophageal and breast cancer, Debie was a beacon of strength and hope. She actively participated in Relay for Life and Lump to Laughter events, contributing to causes close to her heart in support of Breast Cancer organizations.
Debie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. Brownie Sr. and Martha Knott Brownie Hardison; her brother, Douglas Ray Brownie; her sisters, Barbara Brownie Reynolds and Betty Ann Brownie; and her cherished fur babies, Abby and Gracie.
She leaves behind her loving siblings: Charles E. Brownie Jr. (Grace), Carol Mills Williams (Lee), William Anthony “Tony” Beale, and Jacqueline Hardison Shackelford (Rudolph III.). She also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and one special young lady, Rylie, whom she considered her niece, and many friends who were more like family to her, along with her dear fur baby, Brownie.
Debie will be remembered as a giving and generous soul whose kindness and warmth touched all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but the love and memories she shared will remain in our hearts forever.
