LELAND — Robert “Rob” Inman Faulkner, a devoted husband, acclaimed architectural photographer, and passionate fly fisherman, passed away on August 26, 2025.
Born in Houston, Texas, Rob spent much of his adult life in the New York City metropolitan area before relocating in 2017 to Leland, North Carolina, with his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia (Doerr) Faulkner. Rob deeply loved Patricia; they were a devoted couple, their personalities complementing each other. Rob held Patricia at the center of his life, and their love was an enduring example to all of their friends and loved ones.
Rob was predeceased by his mother, Dr. Audrey Olsen Faulkner, and his stepfather, Dr. Maurice Albertson. He is lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law Richard Doerr and his wife Angela; his stepsisters, Kay Reed and her husband Claude Dentz, and Sarah Albertson and her husband Bill Peters. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A gifted photographer, Rob spent more than 40 years capturing the built environment with precision, artistry, and a discerning eye. His work was widely recognized in industry publications and left an indelible mark on the field of architectural photography. His camera rarely left his side—whether he was documenting the dynamic skyline of New York City or preserving memories from travels across the U.S. and abroad with Patricia.
Under his jovial persona, Rob was a deeply thoughtful and intellectual man. He had a unique ability to humanize current events and lived life with an ethos that was humane, thoughtful, kind, and loving. Rob did not suffer fools gladly, but he treated his friends with unwavering love, loyalty and generosity.
Beyond photography, Rob found joy in many pursuits. He was an avid golfer, always ready for a round with friends and especially his nephew, Nick Martinez. In retirement, he embraced his lifelong passion for fly fishing, making frequent and beloved trips to the Brevard area of North Carolina. A skilled gourmet cook, Rob delighted in preparing meals that brought people together and created lasting memories.
Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
