Joseph David Hancammon, 81

WILMINGTON — Joseph David Hancammon, 81, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, after a brief illness.

Born on September 1, 1943, in Wilmington, NC, to the late William Henry Hancammon, Jr., and Kathryn Loughlin Hancammon, Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence touched countless lives.

A proud Wilmington native, Joseph spent his summers working at Johnny Mercer’s Pier in Wrightsville Beach, where he forged lifelong memories by the ocean. He attended North Carolina State University, earning his degree before dedicating 33 years to a career at Kmart, retiring with a legacy of hard work and commitment.

Joseph was the most amazing man to those who knew him, with a heart too large for this world. His kindness, unconditional love, and understanding nature made everyone feel cherished. Heaven welcomed a true saint upon his passing. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Hancammon; daughter, Cindy Roberts; son, Joe Hancammon; grandson, Nathan Roberts, his spouse, Megan, and their children, Ollie, Saylor, and Addi; granddaughter, Claire Batten, her husband, Seth, and their son, Westin; sister-in-law, Gail Hancammon; and nieces, Kelly Hancammon and Kimberly Hancammon, daughters of Gail. He was predeceased by his parents, William Henry Hancammon, Jr., and Kathryn Loughlin Hancammon; his brother, William Henry Hancammon, III; and his son-in-law, Henry Roberts Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street, Wilmington, NC, followed by interment at Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington, NC.
