WILMINGTON — Loring Gerald Rivers, born January 14, 1950, in Kinston, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 75.

Loring began his professional journey in the textile industry, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Textiles from NC State University in 1972. With a strong foundation in management, he demonstrated an exceptional ability to lead and innovate within textile mills before transitioning into retail sales, where he found his true passion selling Christmas decorations, trees, and wreaths.

Beyond his professional achievements, Loring was a man of varied interests who cherished time with his family. He often expressed that the family’s boat was their best investment, providing countless joyful days on the water. An ardent beach lover and avid golfer, Loring found peace and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life.

A man of quick wit and deep faith, Loring was a steady friend to many and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and provider. He held a special place in his heart for NC State, remaining a fervent Wolfpack fan throughout his life. His courage and selflessness shone brightly, especially in moments of crisis, having twice saved the life of his beloved younger sister, once on a Ferris wheel and another time from a rip current at the beach.

Loring was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Daphne (nee Mills) Rivers. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 and a half years, Marjorie Jones Rivers; sons Marc Rivers and his wife Jessica, and Daniel and Kelley Wheat-Rivers; adored granddaughter Emma; siblings Brad Rivers and his wife Pat, and Lynn Dellinger and her husband Dewey. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service to honor Loring’s life will be held at Wilmington Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11 AM. The family kindly requests donations be made to The Warming Shelter in Wilmington, NC, a cause close to Loring’s heart, see link below.

Loring’s warmth, humor, and unwavering spirit touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike.
