LELAND — Richard Donald Rines, Jr. of Leland, North Carolina and formerly of Westchester and Orange Counties in New York, died unexpectedly on May 4, 2025 at the age of 78. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 26, 1946 to Richard D. Rines, Sr. and Olivia (Geidt) Rines.
Don served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1970 to 1975. After college, Don worked as a computer operator for IBM and quickly rose through the ranks to become an executive accountant. He was proud to work for IBM for 42 years, which included assignments in Japan and Australia.
Those who knew Don, remember him for his sense of humor, his loyalty, and his devotion to family. He loved to converse with friends and family and often could be heard passing down the wisdom he had gained from years of experience. Throughout his life, Don touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, kindness and smile will be remembered by family, friends and neighbors.
Don is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Theresamarie DiSabato Rines, with whom he loved to travel to different parts of the world. They were blessed to have a happy marriage and raised two wonderful children: Richard (Donnie) Rines, III and his wife, Sara, of Middletown, New York, and Christine Fusco of Grand Island, New York.
Don’s love for his family knew no bounds, and he took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren: Anthony, Isabella, Paul (predeceased 2023), Richie, Peter, Gianna, Emily and Theresa, sharing in their milestones and offering guidance and support whenever needed. His grandchildren will truly miss him.
Don is also survived by his siblings: Susan (Thomas) Egan of Leland, North Carolina; Jane (John) Hubbart of Ruther Glen, Virginia; Priscilla (Gregory) Arling of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Paul DiSabato of Mt. Vernon, New York.
A memorial service is planned for 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Andrews Market Street Chapel.
