WILMINGTON — Alice Groves Morse, age 82, passed gently from her earthly life on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 21, 1942 in Duplin County, the daughter of Perry David Groves and Virginia Merritt Groves. In addition to her parents Alice was preceded in death by her brothers, George Groves and Glen Groves; and nephews, Lee Whitehead and Ernie Groves.
Alice is survived by her sisters, Janet Groves Whitehead and Helen Joyce Pope; brothers, Jerry David Groves and Perry Dallas “Alice’s twin” Groves (Brenda); nieces, Michelle Groves, Becky Mares (Lloyd), Tracy Utt, Virginia Martin, and Johannah Woods (Matt); nephews, Michael Whithead and Edward Pope; great nieces and great nephews, Vanessa, Carmen, Grace, Zack, Caison, and John; many extended family and dear friends.
For many years Alice worked as a Registered Nurse, having graduated from James Walker Hospital School of Nursing. In the 1990s Alice was an active member of the Raleigh Elks Lodge #735.
Alice was a giver, spending her whole life giving, caring for others. Her last gift on this earth was a donation through the donor program, HonorBridge. She had a soft spot in her heart for veterans and yearly took supplies to NC State Veterans Home in Kinston as well as during the year giving to many veteran projects. Since Alice had no children of her own, she counted her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as hers and took great pleasure in spoiling them. They were shining lights in her life. Living a great part of her life in Raleigh, Alice had many very special friends including “CC” in the Raleigh area that she adored. Alice loved getting flowers as she often said, “bring me flowers while I am living.” Alice’s beautiful smile and giving spirit in our lives will surely be missed and long remembered.
In lieu of flowers the family would like you to consider memorial gifts to Coras Grove Church for Penderlea Christian Academy, 4875 Coras Grove Road, Willard, NC 28478.
Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
