LELAND — Eileen Heenan passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 3rd, 2025, just one day after celebrating her 70th birthday. Eileen was a truly unique and beloved member of our family.
Eileen dedicated her life to the care and service of others, working as a nurse for many years. She was a proud graduate of the Cochran School of Nursing at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in New York, where she honed her skills and compassion for those in need.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Nora and Daniel Heenan. Eileen is survived by her brother, Dan Heenan, of Clifton, New Jersey.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at The Gate of Heaven family plot in West Haven, New York, where she will be laid to rest alongside her family.
She was best known as the most famous camp nurse at Day Camp in the Park at Harriman State Park in Orange County, NY. She was renowned for her one-of-a-kind personality and her tradition of singing “Happy Birthday” over the loudspeaker to every camper celebrating a birthday during the summer. A die-hard New York Rangers fan and a passionate admirer of Rafael Nadal’s tennis, Eileen’s enthusiasm and spirit were contagious.
She was the kind of person you would never forget after meeting her just once. She will be missed by those who knew her.
