WILMINGTON — David Benton Peters, affectionately known as Dave or fondly Spanky passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 57, after a short battle with cancer.
Born on October 31, 1967, in Harrisburg, PA, David lived a life marked by creativity, passion, and dedication to his craft.
In the 1990s, David relocated to Wilmington, where he worked in the film industry and went on to use his creative skills as a master carpenter. His craftsmanship and attention to detail left a lasting impact on the projects he touched and the people he worked alongside.
From a young age, David’s heart was set on the thrill of track racing. What began as a childhood enthusiasm for go-karts blossomed into a lifelong passion. He was also an avid hockey player since the tender age of five, showcasing his love for the sport and camaraderie. Beyond the racetrack and rink, David found joy in music, art, and finding retro furnishings, each reflecting his unique sense of style and appreciation for beauty.
David was a proud member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), where he formed enduring friendships with fellow enthusiasts who shared his love for speed and sportsmanship.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Benton Peters. And his canine, Josie, the love of his life.
Left to honor and celebrate his life are his beloved mother, Nancy Blazina, and his loving sister, Corrie Blazina. They, along with many friends and colleagues, remember David for his warmth, humor, and unwavering spirit.
In accordance with David’s wishes, no formal services will be held. However, his family and friends are encouraged to keep him in their thoughts and prayers, cherishing the memories of a man who lived life with great passion and purpose.
