SOUTHPORT — Patricia Barnes Whiting, a 26 year resident of St James, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025 at the Terra Bella assisted living facility in Southport, NC.
Pat was born in Bronx, NY on January 3, 1935, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Barnes. Pat earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Rhode Island and a Master’s Degree from SUNY New Paltz. She met her future husband, John, while attending the University of Rhode Island. John and Pat were married on August 25, 1956. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2021, prior to John’s passing in 2022.
Pat taught in public middle and high schools in Cleveland OH, Radford VA, Washingtonville NY before retiring as middle school teacher in Middletown NY.
Pat very much enjoyed getting together with her St James neighbors for their regular game days.
Pat is survived by her sons, Michael (wife Katie) of St James, Jeffrey of Wilmington NC; and daughter, Johanna (husband Dave) of Warminster PA; grandchildren, Brandon, Dawson and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Johnathan and Serenity. She is predeceased by her grandson, Robert.
Pat was a member of St Peter Lutheran Church of Southport NC.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a St Peter Lutheran Church of Southport on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
