Gregory (Greg) Baccari, 67

Gregory (Greg) Baccari (Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park)

WILMINGTON — Gregory (Greg) Baccari, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on February 21, 2025.

A long-time resident of Wilmington, Greg found joy and serenity on the water and at the beach, especially at Masonboro Island, where he loved taking long walks or simply reading a book. He often said it was the most beautiful beach in the world. An avid adventurer, he cherished sailing and skiing whenever and wherever he could.

Greg graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and achieved the rank of Chief Engineer of Steam, Motor, Gas, and Turbine. His career as a Merchant Marine included serving in both Gulf Wars, providing critical military support.

He grew up in Cohasset, MA, where he developed his lifelong passion for the ocean and the outdoors. Greg was a World War II history enthusiast with a special interest in the United States Air Force B-52 bombers, inspired by his late father, who served as Lead Navigator during the war. He also loved cooking, especially homemade pasta and Sicilian antipasto — skills lovingly passed down from his late mother and grandmother.

Greg is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and his son, Vincent, both of Wilmington, NC; his sister, Jean Challies of Sandwich, MA; his brother, Paul Baccari, and his wife, Tina, of Hingham, MA; along with many beloved aunts, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Greg’s kindness, adventurous spirit, and love of life will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who knew him.
