WILMINGTON — Katherine “Kitty” Sanders Jamieson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Hampstead, NC, on February 15, 2025. She was born on October 5, 1946, in Wilmington, NC, at James Walker Memorial Hospital, to the late Simon Warren Sanders IV and Betty Faye Allen Sanders.
Kitty’s life was one of boundless love, unwavering faith, and wholehearted generosity. She attended East Carolina University and Stratford College before embarking on a long career as a Social Security Administrator. Her work ethic and compassion shone through in all she did, but her true joy in life was her family and the many communities she enriched along the way. She was also a lifelong member of the Carolina Yacht Club, where she spent countless cherished moments by the water, a place that always felt like home to her.
Kitty’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of several churches over the years, including St. Andrews on the Sound and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, before finding her final church home at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She played a vital role in the Cursillo and Via de Cristo communities, always willing to serve and uplift others. In 2013, she had the honor of serving as the Rector for Via de Cristo #85, a testament to her leadership and deep commitment to her faith.
A true matriarch, Kitty and her husband, Ron, built an incredibly close-knit family. Whether on the beach, out on the boat fishing, or gathered at home, Kitty’s presence made every moment feel warmer, brighter, and full of laughter. She leaves behind her husband, Ronald H. Jamieson; her daughters, Michelle Gomez and Sarah Jamieson-Rayson; her step-son, Ron Jamieson Jr.; and her grandchildren, Jessica Eddy, Trey Fairbanks, Katie Fairbanks, and Jacob Fairbanks. She was also blessed to welcome her great-granddaughter, Saylor Allen Eddy, into the family. Kitty is survived by her sister, Lynda Shell, and her brother, Warren Sanders.
Kitty’s love extended far beyond her family. She was deeply involved in her community, volunteering for years with Wilmington’s Riverfest, where she played a key role in organizing the Arts and Crafts vendors before ultimately serving as President in her final year. Even in retirement, she continued caring for others, lovingly tending to her mother-in-law until her passing. But Kitty could never sit still for long—she later worked for a Homeowners Association Management company, always finding ways to stay engaged and contribute.
Kitty found joy in life’s simple pleasures—picking up golf balls in her yard, watching boats drift along the Intracoastal Waterway, and soaking in the beauty of the world around her. But more than anything, Kitty brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She had a knack for dressing up in the most unforgettable costumes, bringing smiles through her Via de Cristo skits, her creative Halloween outfits, and the legendary family Christmas photos that became cherished traditions.
Kitty was the heart of the Jamieson family, a light that can never be replaced. Her kindness was limitless, her love boundless, and her generosity knew no end. Her absence leaves an unfillable void, but her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.
A service to celebrate Kitty’s incredible life will be held on March 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 12 N 6th St, Wilmington, NC 28401.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that guests bring a photograph of Kitty to leave as a keepsake. These photos will be used to create a special collage honoring the memories she made and the lives she touched.
Kitty’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. She made the world a better place simply by being in it, and while words cannot express the depth of our loss, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, watching over us with that same warm, joyful spirit.
