Marjorie M. Stutzman, 94

Marjorie M. Stutzman (Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park)

WILMINGTON — Marjorie Moore Stutzman was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 13, 2025.

Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on January 2, 1931, to Russell H. Moore and Mildred R. Moore, she carried a warm and nurturing spirit throughout her life touching all those she encountered through her career, community involvement, and most precious to her, her family.

In her twenties, Marjorie pursued and earned a degree in medical technology from Juniata College and later a master’s degree in library science from East Carolina University. She worked as a medical technologist for 18 years in hospitals throughout Alaska and Virginia and later became a school librarian in Edenton, North Carolina, where she took great pleasure in sharing her joy of reading with children for many years.

In 1951, she married Robert Blair Stutzman, and together they built a home filled with love and laughter while raising their three daughters – Sue (Joel) Picus, Nan (Doug) Powell, and Jill (Tom) Ratchford. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Moore, husband Blair, and daughter Jill. She is survived by two daughters and her six grandchildren – Blair (Erskine) Love, Bess (Tom) Schrader, Douglas Powell III, Joshua Picus, Samuel Picus, and Anna Ratchford – and five great-grandchildren.

Beyond her career and her role as a mother, Marjorie’s life was rich with both simple pleasures and exciting hobbies – a voracious love of reading, remarkable seamstress skills, weekly Mahjong games with friends, and an adventurous spirit that led her to travel the world, embarking on over 20 international trips covering every continent except Antarctica. When at home, her consistent volunteer work with the Cape Fear Museum, the New Hanover County Library, and Blair Elementary School Library allowed her to share her warmth and kindness with her local community.

Marjorie’s proudest legacy was the deep, loving bond she forged with her family. She will be remembered for the countless ways she nurtured, supported, and inspired her loved ones – a legacy that will live on in every memory, story, and warm smile she left behind. She will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service in her honor will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service in Wilmington, NC.
