Omar Abdelhady, 44

WILMINGTON — Omar Abdelhady, a beloved friend, son, and brother, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2025, after living a life of extraordinary bravery and strength while facing Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Born on April 25, 1980, Omar was a beacon of resilience, kindness, and intelligence. He approached life with grace, determination, and a deep sense of acceptance, inspiring all who knew him.

Omar was a master of adaptation, using tools and his incredible ingenuity to create both physical and mental independence, ensuring his mobility and autonomy. His brilliant mind and clever sense of humor left lasting impressions on his many friends, who cherished his company and wisdom.

He was known for his love of animals and nature, often dreaming of returning as a Magnolia tree—a symbol of strength and beauty. Omar’s connection to the natural world mirrored his gentle and thoughtful spirit. He is now reunited in memory with his brother Eric Sharif Abdelhady, who is lovingly remembered as a dragonfly, their spirits forever intertwined.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Davelaar, his father Hady Abdelhady, his brother, Adam Abdelhady, as well as aunts, uncles, and several cousins.

Omar’s legacy is one of courage, compassion, and love. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a world forever touched by his grace.

A Celebration of Omar’s Life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nature Conservancy 7 Beauregard Drive, Wilmington, NC 28412 or to causes close to Omar’s heart.
