WILMINGTON — Julia LeBer, beloved wife and devoted friend, passed away January 16, 2024 at the age of 68. Born and raised in Kinston, North Carolina, Julia was known for her boundless generosity and her dedication to helping others throughout her life.

Julia graduated from Peace College, Atlantic Christian College, and obtained her Master’s degree from Emory University. She began her career working in the NICU before becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. Julia’s career took her to PPD, where she started in the early days of the company, working on various medical trial studies. Over time, she became a project manager, overseeing these studies and making significant contributions to the field.

Julia was also a third-generation cemeterian, continuing the family tradition of honoring those who had passed and ensuring their final resting places were cared for with respect and dignity.

A woman of many passions, Julia loved animals, particularly her Westies, and enjoyed SCUBA diving, boating, and staying physically active. A lover of family gatherings, she found joy in playing card games and entertaining loved ones in her home. Her outgoing nature and infectious enthusiasm brought people together, and she will be remembered for her warmth and ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Julia’s heart was as generous as her spirit, and she was deeply committed to philanthropy. She donated to countless charities and causes, always seeking ways to give back and improve the lives of others.

Above all, Julia was defined by her deep faith in God and her unwavering belief in helping others. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and the importance of living with compassion and grace. Julia’s faith guided her actions, and she shared her love and belief in God with everyone she encountered. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched, as her example of faith and love continues to inspire all who knew her.

Julia is survived by her brother, William Dixon, III, her husband, Gary LeBer, and his children, Brittany (Martin) Perez, Jacob (Makayla) LeBer; two grandsons, Samuel and Logan Perez, as well as her step-children from her first marriage, Brad (Ashley) Mickey, Chris Mickey and Brenden Mickey. Although Julia did not have children of her own, she was always grateful for the children in her life because they became her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Julia was predeceased by her parents, William Thomas Dixon and Alice Lambeth Wilson Dixon and her first husband, Gregory Mickey.

Weather permitting, visitation for Julia will be from 4-6 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108S. College Rd., Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Rd. Wilmington. Entombment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington. Please check back on Tuesday afternoon to see if there have been changes to service dates due to pending weather forecasts.
