CAROLINA BEACH — Wayland Francis Kennedy, Sr., 78, of Carolina Beach, passed away, Monday, December 9, 2024.
He was born July 27, 1946, in Pinehurst, NC to the late Willie Alexander Kennedy and Vanesser Hildridge Robson Kennedy. Although being raised in Pinehurst, he spent the last 40 years in Carolina Beach.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a brother, Willie Junebug Kennedy and son, Justin Kennedy.
Wayland grew up in the country and loved hunting and fishing and passed his love of the outdoors on to his children. He was a social butterfly and loved music, dancing, a strong drink and a good joke. He was an avid golfer and loved his Dallas Cowboys and UNC Tarheels. He wore his heart on his sleeve and would do anything for those he loved.
He was a long-term employee at Corning for 34 years. Wayland loved to be at Corning and loved his work friends. He loved work because of his friends there.
Survivors include his children, Wendy and David Moore, Wayland Kennedy, Jr. and Stephanie Doetsch, Dustin Kennedy and Nikita Blumenshine, Ashley and Matt Ibbotson and Stewart Marciano; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Josh, Justin, River, Elias, Oliver, Maya and Marley; two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Kathy Black and Janet Buffaloe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any wildlife conservation effort. Being outdoors and hunting and fishing with those he loved was very close to his heart.
