WILMINGTON — It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donald L Monroe. He died on November 29th, 2024 at the age of 88 yrs. old.
He was born on December 21, 1935 in Ashwood SC. To Henry and Henrilla Monroe. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and great grandfather and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; his children, Donna, Joe and Ron; his grandchildren Ricky, Paul, Natalie, Lori Beth, Michael, Daniel, Nathan, Brandon, Levon, and Janice; his great-grandchildren Noah, Emma, Charlotte, Cole and Mason; and one sister Mrs. Gayle Croom.
Don was dedicated in his career as a Wilmington Police officer and after retiring from there to being Chief of Police with the Wilmington State Ports Authority which he also retired from after 15 yrs of service. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico VA and was also enlisted in the National Guard.
He took great joy in spending time with his family and friends, fishing with his buddies and family, and was a gifted gardener who shared the bounty of his crops with many people.
He will always be remembered for his ready smile and his sneaky sense of humor.
