WILMINGTON — Berta Arletha Robinson Baklini was born on August 21, 1929, in Carroll County, Georgia, the ninth child of Henry and Bonnie Robinson. Berta, a woman of deep faith, went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2024, surrounded by loving family members, in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Berta lived a full life. She married Abdo Baklini on January 8, 1946, and promptly set out for New York City where together they raised five children. Their marriage was filled with joy, hard work and love. Berta lived in New York City until her husband’s passing in 1979, moved to Smyrna, Georgia and then on to Wilmington, North Carolina to be with her youngest daughter.
Berta was the model for all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness, generous nature, a sweet smile and a wicked sense of humor. Never one to sit back, Berta was a caring, hardworking, loving mother, who taught her children well. During her lifetime she became an expert baker, accomplished gardener, licensed beautician, postal worker and a community volunteer.
Berta was a loved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many who sought out her wisdom, advice and perspective. One friend summed it up by saying, “she was a beacon in a dark world.”
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Bonnie Ambrose (Donald), Barbara Pabotoy (Orlando), Leonard (Margaret), Randy (LaVetta) and Melissa Dupuis, sisters-in-law, Manie Wright Robinson, and Kathryn Prater Robinson, fifteen grandchildren and their spouses, multiple great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
