WILMINGTON — Marjorie A. Fairbanks, 75, passed away peacefully with family on October 25, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was born November 26, 1948, to the late Joseph Elmer Stacks and Janet Jaqueline Heatwole in Arlington, Virginia.
She grew up in Falls Church, Virginia. As one of twelve children, she developed a competitive spirit and independence at a young age that continued throughout her life. She was a naturally gifted athlete, lettering in field hockey, basketball and softball in high school. She attended Bluefield College and Northern Virginia Community College focusing on accounting and bookkeeping.
She married the love of her life in her late teens, the late John Adams Fairbanks and was married for 35 years before being widowed. She was a devoted wife and mother to their three children Kimberly, John and Andy.
She worked in state and local government for the Dept of Motor Vehicles and later for the Loudoun County Treasurer’s Office. Upon retiring, she changed careers working as a preschool teacher. She truly loved her job touching the lives of children and families. She was active in the Episcopal Church serving on the altar guild and as secretary for Our Redeemer Episcopal Church in Aldie, VA. These roles exemplified the most important things to her, her faith, love of children and her family.
She is survived by her siblings Jacqueline Stacks Block, Wayne Stacks, Steve Stacks, Jerry Stacks, David Stacks and Rebecca Stacks, many nieces and nephews, her children Kimberly (Paul) Klinger, John (Nicole) Fairbanks, and Andy (Gina) Fairbanks. She has eleven grandchildren Jacob, Katie, Steven, Anna, Madison, Morgan, Johnny, Elizabeth, Aidan, Lindsay and Clifton. She was blessed with her first great grandchild, Owen, the last eight weeks of her life.
She was a beautiful, caring, sweet, funny, humble, friend, sister, mother and wife.
Visitation will be from 10-11am with a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC
