WILMINGTON — Shelby Kelly Cox, 85, of Pinehurst passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, October 11th, 2024.
Shelby was born on April 3rd, 1939, in Kelly, NC to Orrell Kelly and Janie Taylor Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Marian, Norrine and Bonnie, and a brother, Danny.
After Shelby graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, a first marriage produced two beautiful children, Sherry and Sherrill Ray. Several years later and being a single working mom, she found work at NCNB National Bank in Wilmington where she met and later married Jimmie Cox. Shelby went on to work for General Electric in Wilmington and Carolina Eye Associates in Southern Pines.
After retirement, Shelby spent her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren and her favorite dog, a Shih Tzu she named Kai Noel. She also loved working with flowers, shopping and cooking.
Shelby is survived by her husband Jimmie, daughter, Sherry Griffin (Edward), son Sherrill Britt (Laura), grandsons, Greg Griffin and Brett Griffin and granddaughter, Larcie Britt.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her life, and memory may donate to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or their favorite charity.
