OAK ISLAND — Ms. Kaylene George Hatcher, age 79, of Oak Island, N.C. died October 12, 2024, At SECU Hospice Facility in Bolivia , N.C.

She was Born March 20, 1945, in Surry County N.C., to the late James Lloyd George and Louise Marie Cooke George. Kaylene was known for her big heart and putting a smile on everyone’s face, with a joke or by giving compliments to boost everyone’s morale. All who met her at Oak Island she immediately became “Ma” to them. In her final hours many of those friends were there to show her their Love.

She grew up in the Francisco Community in Stokes County where she graduated from Francisco School and was active in all the small school had to offer including being a cheerleader. She was a Member of Asbury Presbyterian Church but during her youth Woodville Baptist Church was the family home church. Those early years she was given the nickname “Sunshine” and it suited her all of her life. Kaylene retired from Hamrick’s in Winston Salem where she made lifelong friends from that time. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Sonya and Son-In –Law Clint Jones, who opened their home to her over a dozen years ago at Oak Island, N.C. Her sister Kathy George and husband Lynn Templeton of Pilot Mountain, N.C. A special friend Greg Collins. Also her 4 legged grands Biggie, Ellie, Lincoln and Luna who all loved piling up in bed with her. Also to many cousins, on the George and Cooke sides of the family, to mention even though she kept up with them all the best she could.

In addition to her parents Kaylene was preceded in death by Sonya’s Daddy Bobby Hatcher, who was the love of her life. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Woodville Baptist Church, 5108 Westfield Road, Mt. Airy, N.C. 27030, at 12:30 with the Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating. The celebration of Kaylene will continue with a meal after the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

A celebration of her life will be held on Oak Island at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the wonderful group from the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, (955 Mercy Lane S.E., Bolivia, N.C. 28422), who went above and beyond to show her love and special care the year she was with them, or to Northern Stokes Food Pantry (7257 NC HWY 89, Westfield, N.C. 27053) in support of Kaylene’s home community Francisco.
