WILMINGTON — Gerald J. Mancuso, known as Gerry, passed away on September 14th, 2024 after a year long battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.
Gerry was born and raised in New Brunswick, New Jersey where he attended St. Joseph’s High School. He attended Rutgers University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to complete his MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Gerry’s career as an engineer took him many places around the country including San Jose, CA, Schenectady, NY, Phoenixville, PA, Hershey, PA, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, and Wilmington, NC. Gerry spent the majority of his career working for GE in the Aerospace and Nuclear divisions.
Gerry was a devout man of faith and a member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church. His greatest joys came from being a proud father and grandfather, and by helping others. He would give you the shirt off his back and drop everything he was doing to help those in need. His friendly personality and sense of humor meant he never met a stranger and developed many close friendships. Gerry was also an avid pool player and enjoyed spending time relaxing with his friends around his pool table.
Gerry is survived by his wife Carol, for whom he was a devoted husband and caregiver, his son Michael Mancuso and wife Maureen Mancuso and grandson Milo Mancuso of Wilmington, NC, his stepdaughter Carolyn Zook Lewis and her husband Vince Lewis of Durham, NC, his stepdaughter Lindsey Matakas Kniffen and her husband Jay Kniffen of Raleigh, NC, his mother Natalie Mancuso of Lavalette, NJ, brother Joe Mancuso and his wife Eileen Mancuso of Lavalette, NJ, and his brother Ben Mancuso and his wife Yukiko Mancuso of Acworth, GA and his nephews Joseph, Matthew, Tim, Alex, and Ryan Mancuso. He is preceded in death by his father Benito Mancuso of North Brunswick, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the V Foundation for cancer research.
A public visitation will be held at Andrews Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1617 Market St, Wilmington, NC 28401
Memorial services will be hosted at Scott’s Hill Baptist Church on Friday, September 20 at 4 p.m. at 185 Scotts Hill Loop Rd, Wilmington, NC 28411
