LELAND — Charles “Shorty” Allen McLean, 90, of Leland, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.
He was born on August 19, 1934, in Robeson County, North Carolina, to the late Neal Arch and Chellie (Hammonds) McLean.
Shorty, a good Christian man, was a hard worker who never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, making people laugh and was a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything. Most of all, Shorty loved his family and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Glenda (Nance) McLean; son, Neal McLean and wife, Leah; daughter, Teresa Dew and husband, Clyde “C.F.”; grandchildren, Amanda Cole and husband, Eddie, Jason Dew and wife, Victoria, Mitch Laurie, Jon Laurie; great grandchildren, Brianne Cole, Nathan Cole, Mason Cole, Colton Dew, Wyatt Dew, Chance Laurie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Shorty was also predeceased by his brothers, Otis McLean, Roy McLean, Tommy McLean; and sisters, Hazel Smith, Frances Kelly, Ella Hammonds, Pearl Bryant and Ruby Carlisle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
His funeral service will be noon on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with Pastor James Kelly and Pastor Arnold Griffin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
