WILMINGTON — Our dear mother, Sandra “Sandy” Louise Brown (nee: Alburtis) peacefully passed away on August 4, 2024 at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare, in Wilmington, NC.
She goes to join her husband and love of her life, James George Brown [“Brownie, Jim, Jimmy”] She is the daughter of the late John Samuel Alburtis and late Wilda Oleta Hale Mayhew of Cumberland, MD. Preceding her in death also are her brothers John Andrew Alburtis, Donald Ray Alburtis and sisters, Doris “Dottie” Lee Swain and Margaret “Peggy” Ann Munday, all of Cumberland, MD.
Born in Cumberland, MD, on September 23, 1938, Sandy attended Allegany High School. She married James George Brown on November 5, 1954, in Cumberland, MD, where they raised their family. She worked for Peskin’s, a shoe and clothing store in Cumberland, and then for a local Cumberland doctor as a receptionist. In 2005 she and her husband moved to Wilmington, NC, to live out their retirement years.
She leaves behind three daughters and their spouses, Jane and Tony Dent, Tall Timbers, MD, Lonny and Rick Watro, Moneta, VA, and Beth Brown, Wilmington, NC; two granddaughters, their husband and fiancée, Katie and Robert Kwiatkowski, Hollywood, MD, Sarah Gallagher and Tommy Combs, Leonardtown, MD; two great grandsons, Cameron and Eli Kwiatkowski; and many nieces, nephews.
A small Catholic ceremony will be held at a later date in Moneta, VA, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare or any hospice care facility, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or America Parkinson’s Disease Association.
