WILMINGTON — Charlie passed away at his home, surrounded by loving family. He fought a nine month battle after his diagnosis of Glioblastoma.
Charlie was born on February 15, 1961, to the late Albert Ray and Betty Jo Phelps in Wilson, NC.
Charlie touched many lives with his loving personality and incredible sense of humor. If you knew Charlie, you have a story of how much he made you laugh. And boy, he knew how to get everyone on the dance floor with his encyclopedia of music and his DJ skills!
He lived by his motto, work hard and play hard. He was a great husband, friend and uncle.
Charlie loved to cruise. Despite being on over 70 cruises, each cruise was like his first, expressing his enthusiasm and excitement for adventure. If he wasn’t on the Lido deck, he was at home in “Charlie’s Garage”. He had the most stocked, organized, spotless garage, and was proud of it!
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn M. Phelps, son Charles Tyler Phelps of Magnolia, TX, Albert R. Phelps (Antonio Martinez), Benjamin Phelps (Christine), 4 nieces and 4 nephews, 3 great nieces and 1 great nephew, along with many extended family members and friends who loved and will miss him.
He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, Albert Ray and Betty Jo Phelps, along with his brother Timothy Phelps.
A celebration of life for Charlie is tentatively scheduled for September. More details to follow.
