CASTLE HAYNE — David Huggins, 88, of Castle Hayne, passed away on July 1, 2024 from terminal cancer at NorthChase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
David was born in Pender County on April 8, 1936 to the late John Dewey and Margaret Wilson Huggins. He graduated from Long Creek Grady School and was a member of the Riley’s Creek Baptist Church. He maintained a quiet Christian faith all of his life and through the years served in many positions at the church. David married his beloved Amelia in 1959. He was a veteran of both the US Navy Reserve and US Air Force. He retired from General Electric Aircraft Division after 32 years.
David was a devoted husband, father, “Poppy”, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly (Todd) Blumenreich and Lisa McKoy; two grandchildren, Skylar McKoy and Kellon (Suraya Whitaker) McKoy; sister, Annette Olesen; brother, Jimmy Huggins and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Amelia; mother-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” (Edward) Raynor; sisters-in-law, Katherine Ann Huggins and Dean Russell; and brothers-in-law, Larry Olesen, David Russell, and Don Murray.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the team at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and the staff at NorthChase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care and kindness during David’s illness.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Riley’s Creek Memorial Cemetery with Pastor G.Arnold Griffin conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
