Born on July 4, 1934, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Tom lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family and career.

It was during his time as a lifeguard at Lake Marwin, Ohio, that he met Joan Draper Adam, his wife of 63 years. Tom served his country with honor in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Korea. Graduating from Kent State University in 1960, Tom embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape not only his own life but also the lives of countless others. Tom and Joan married on October 29, 1960, and soon after, they relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina, where they would build their legacy together.

Following his military service, he began a career in sales with Ciba Pharmaceuticals. However, in 1968, he made a pivotal decision to pursue a new path in real estate. Starting at Wilder Cooper Realty, Tom quickly established himself as a respected and innovative professional. In 1979, he formed Adam and Hillard Realty with partner Dave Hillard, a firm that would go on to be recognized multiple times as the “Most Cooperative Firm” by the Wilmington Board of Realtors.

In 1999, Adam and Hillard Realty integrated with Intracoastal Realty, where Tom continued to thrive until his retirement in 2023 at the remarkable age of 88. His real estate career, which spanned over half a century, was distinguished by his mentorship of hundreds of employees and agents, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him.
