SOUTHPORT — Roberta “Bobbie” May Mason, age 85, of Southport, North Carolina (NC), passed away on Saturday, June 1st, 2024.
Born on March 3rd, 1939, to the late Joseph Patrick Sharkey and Evelyn Marie Stiles, in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Bobbie is further preceded in death by her husband, William Bowers Mason; brother, Raymond Joseph Sharkey; and sister, Donna Marie Latham.
After working with Pep Boys as a PBX telephone operator for six years and caring for her mother and Grandmother, Bobbie moved with her family to Delanco, New Jersey, in order to afford them a better quality of life. Bobbie still commuted to Philadelphia to work at Glenco-Star for approximately thirty years, rising to the position of VP of Sales. Upon retirement, Bobbie and her husband moved to Boiling Spring Lakes (BSL), NC, where she lived for 28 years. After her husband passed, Bobbie did not enjoy retirement, so she eventually began working, first as a volunteer, then an employee, of the BSL Community Center. She loved working with the seniors (which she never was) and the young children, but she was happiest when with her family and friends, celebrating the holidays, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Michael William Mason (wife, Doris); and numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and her chosen “family members” from Delanco, the Center and Friday Night Dinner group.
A service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Peacock-Newnam and White Funeral Service, Southport, but the family will receive friends starting at 1 p.m. After the burial at Cape Fear Memorial Park, Southport, everyone is invited to return to Peacock-Newnam for a reception.
