SOUTHPORT — Jan F. Mousley, age 79, of Southport, North Carolina passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was surrounded by the love of family and friends in his last days.
Jan was born on August 29, 1944, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Ralph Edward Mousley and Dorothy Vernice Bratton Mousley.
Jan lived and worked in the Elgin area most of his life. He was employed by Illinois School District 300 as Supervisor of Building and Grounds for 22 years before his retirement in 2009.
After moving to Southport, Jan formed wonderful friendships with his neighbors and kickboxing classmates. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2020 and melanoma in 2024, Jan’s friends became not only a loving support system, but his Southport family when his Wisconsin family couldn’t be there. Jan’s family would like to thank all of his Southport family for all of the love, hugs, and assistance they shared over the past few years. He couldn’t have stayed in his home without you. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.
Jan is survived by his ex-wife, Pat Saer; daughter-in-law, Pam Mousley; three grandchildren, Tricia (Corey) Brabender, Jeff Mousley, and Shary (Rodney) Saunders; and six great-grandchildren, Payton, Evan, Eli, Hailey, Alaina, and Jaxon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Stark Mousley, his parents, his sister, and most recently, his only son, David Jan Mousley in February 2023.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at a later date in Southport.
Jan could light up a room with a smile on his face, the twinkle in his eye, and a joke on his lips. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (Vanessa, Rachel, and Denise) for the excellent care that they gave to Jan during his final days.
