LELAND — Leonard M. Sherow, Jr., born on February 18, 1934, in Wappinger Falls, NY, and peacefully passed away on April 17, 2024, in Leland, NC, at the age of 90. Leonard was a man of integrity and dedication throughout his life.
He devoted 35 years of service to IBM as an Advisory Strategic Planner, retiring on June 30, 1987. Leonard also proudly served in the US Army from 1956-1958, including time in Germany with the 7th Army Headquarters, completing his Reserve Duty in 1962. His work ethic and commitment were truly commendable.
Leonard had a passion for various interests. He was an avid golfer, a certified umpire for Little League and Men’s Fast Pitch Softball in Pox, NY, and managed local Little League teams. During the 1950s, he played semi-pro baseball and fast pitch softball in Dutchess County. He and his wife Rose enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers in New York from 1997-2006, before settling in Long Island, NY.
A faithful member of St. Philip & James Catholic Church in St. James, NY, Leonard also served on condo boards in Rhinebeck, NY, and Ft. Pierce, FL, and volunteered at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.
On July 18, 1954, Leonard married the love of his life, Rose Marie Jones, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pok, NY, and resided there for 64 years. He was a devoted husband to Rose for 62 years until her passing on February 11, 2017. Leonard was also preceded in death by his parents Leonard Sherow, Sr., and Minnie (Kelley) Sherow, and one grandchild.
Leonard will be dearly missed by his children Wayne of Oxford, NC, Kevin of Pleasant Valley, NY, Lisa Watson of Leland, NC; 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Committal Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Point Road, Jacksonville, NC, 28541.
