WILMINGTON — Donita Stephenson Monroe, age 70, a longtime resident of the Brookfield Community passed away Friday March 15, 2024.
Donita was born in Wilmington on February 26, 1954. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School. Donita enjoyed working in child care, spending many years as a teacher at Total Child Care. In recent years Donita worked as a receptionist for Medac.
Donita had a passion for sewing and was well known for her crafting talent. She made ruffle curtains for many years and was a wonderful quilter. Donita loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a boy mom who spent many evenings at the ballfield watching her boys play. Donita loved her grandkids and great grandkid more than anything in this world.
Donita is survived by her sons, Scott Monroe (Christi), and Doug Monroe (April); grandchildren, Billy Palmatier, Ryan Monroe (Taylor), Gage Monroe, Alex Monroe, and Blaire Monroe; great grandchildren, Brantley Palmatier and Jason Monroe; daughter-in-law, Dawn Monroe; sisters, Dorice Bothwell (Phil) and Kelly Pyrtle (Joey), niece Avery Pyrtle; nephews Adam & Eric Bothwell, Grant Pyrtle, and several extended family members, friends, and neighbors.
Donita was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Terry Monroe. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Loyd & Shirley Stephenson; and son Brian Monroe.
A visitation gathering for family and friends will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
