Sterling Kyler Combs, 54

Sterling Kyler Combs (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Kyle has left this world to join God in the eternal shopping spree of life.

Everyone who was ever privileged to know Kyle or even just interact with her in the most mundane encounters, would walk away with a smile. Sure, she was an exceptionally shrewd businesswoman with an insatiable appetite for success or a shopaholic who constantly searched for the best bargain and sale of the century. She was extraordinarily brilliant, intelligent, spiritual, social, and wise beyond the norm. All this is obvious as we visualize and remember her life.

Her faith in God, her Lord and Savior, is as definitive as unwavering, and the source of her values that guided her. However, as wise and thriving as a businesswoman as she was, she was equally humble, honest, and ethical. She would conduct every deal, every encounter, and every venture with the utmost integrity and moral fortitude that would rival even the most pious saint. Kyle is a saint herself. Though she was also brilliant, she often gave you a sense of wonder, amazement, and even curiosity with the inability to summon anything other than a mere one-worded but frequently
comical and always puzzled question response of why? This is because through all her business sense and intelligence, Kyle had an innocence about her. Her worldview was wholesome and pure, even childlike. She saw the good in everyone and everything, even if the good was difficult for others to notice.

Through her lens, she only saw the beauty in the world, the magic in life, and the light surrounding all of us. Some may call this naïve or unrealistic, maybe it was to some extent, but it was all that Kyle knew that existed to her. She knew of only one way to be and one way to treat people, and that is with compassion and empathy. She understood, perhaps more than anyone, the power that is obtained, felt, and washes over you after when always showing compassion and love to others and despite whether it was reciprocated or not, she never hesitated and never gave anything less.

Then there is her son Chandler, whom she adores and loves with everything she could muster. Chandler, without exception, is the fire that warms her soul, the fuel that drove her, the crown jewel of her life, and her life’s most cherished gift. All the compassion, kindness, and love Kyle gave the world, she just took to a higher level with Chandler. Kyle viewed the world so innocently and lived her life righteously, being enormously successful in almost everything she set out to accomplish without ever leaving a minuscule of resentment, negativity, or pessimism, and loving everyone wholly and unconditionally in an almost childlike purity, no matter what.

Much like her life, Kyle was simultaneously complex and deceptively simple. Her business ventures, getting cancer, and even her logic, much like life itself, was complicated. However, Kyle knew better than any of us, how she treats others, how we all can treat others, doesn’t have to be complicated. Being compassionate, showing unconditional love, and being graceful is extraordinarily simple; and to Kyle, it was second nature and she made it look easy. To quote Winston Churchill, Kyle was “a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.” That is also Kyle, a complex soul in a difficult world who simply loved everyone and saw the beauty in everything, while making it look deceptively simple.

Kyle is survived by her son Chandler Combs and his father, Todd Combs, her father Robert “Bob” Lassiter and stepmother, Dabney, her mother Patsy McAuley Bush and her stepfather Samuel Bush, her sister Kimberly Lassiter, her stepsister Kimberly Bush, her stepbrothers Joshua Bush and his wife Gretchen, Jonathan Bush and his wife Katie, Jeremiah Bush and her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends, some lifelong, some new, and many in-between, whom she all adored and loved immensely.
