David Henry Oehling (Quinn McGowen Funeral Home)

WILMINGTON — David Henry Oehling, 78, of Rocky Point, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on January 31, 1945, in Englewood, New Jersey, to the late Henry and Hazel Younce Oehling.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margo Abee Oehling; their son, Erik Oehling, of Rocky Point; his brother, Phil Oehling (Lana), of Claremont, NC; nieces, Megan Oehling, of Claremont, NC, Tanya Younce, Melissa Groves, Madison Groves, Kayliana Groves, all of Hickory, NC; his cousin, Becky Brede (Ernie), of Palo Alto, CA; as well as several members of his extended family and friends, including very dear friends, Jerry and Reba Burns, of Taylorsville, NC.

David was a member of the Burgaw Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed telling others about the promises that God has made for the future here on earth and the hope of the resurrection here on earth. That was his hope, and it is this hope that is bringing his family and friends much comfort at this time.

David was a retired furniture upholsterer, who was in the business for over 50 years. The last 20 years he was in the employment of Lester Furniture where he became very close to the people there and considered them as part of his extended family.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to their spiritual brothers and sisters of the Burgaw congregation for all the generosity, love and support that has been shown.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
