WILMINGTON — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Lawrence McDougald, known affectionately as Billy, much too soon on December 20, 2023, in Wilmington, NC. He was born on March 19, 1996, in Pinehurst, NC.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Billy, you’d understand that his love for his family, friends, and his faithful dog, Maddie, knew no bounds. His heart overflowed with an immense love and laughter that could brighten even the dreariest of days. Billy’s unwavering devotion to those he held dear was truly inspiring, reminding us of all of the importance of cherishing our loved ones.
Billy’s zest for life was contagious, and he taught us the value of embracing every moment and living life to the fullest. He would never turn down a day at the beach, hanging out on the boat, a round of golf, or a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game. He encouraged everyone around him to seize each opportunity and embrace the joy that comes with being truly present. In his memory, let us all hug our family tight and love them with all our hearts, just as Billy did.
Following Billy’s passing was the loss of his paternal grandmother, Linda McDougald of Haines City, FL, who passed just 7 days after her grandson. Billy will be forever missed by his beloved parents, John and Betsy McDougald of Kure Beach, NC, his brother, Matt McDougald and partner Bailey Monsour of Houston, TX, his maternal grandparents, Robert and Joan Lawrence of Wilmington, NC, his paternal grandfather, Beau McDougald of Wilmington, NC, his uncle Rob Lawrence of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, his cousins Jeff Lawrence of Pompano Beach, FL and Abby Lawrence of Lighthouse Point, FL, and his cherished dog, Maddie. He also leaves behind far too many friends to count who were fortunate enough to experience his genuine love and who will miss him dearly.

Though Billy’s time with us may have been too short, his memory will live on forever in our hearts.
