WILMINGTON — Ashley Elizabeth Core of Wilmington, NC passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, due to complications from the flu and pneumonia. The world became brighter the day she was born October 5, 1978, in Burlington, NC. She was the third child to her parents Carol “Joy” and Joseph “Gary” Core.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Always helping and caring for people, she was a former nurse and most recently an office manager for Top Shelf Waste Systems. In her short time there, she made significant contributions to the organization with a cheerfulness that will be missed by her teammates and customers.
Ashley had a big heart and a wonderful smile. She was a fun spirited soul who took on many passions. One of which included cooking, just like her mother, her meals brought happiness to many people. Her kindness and generosity could be felt by all who knew her. With an extremely contagious sense of humor, she brought laughter into any conversation!
She is survived by her loving companion Lamont Smith. Forever remembered by her father Gary Core, siblings Scott Core and his wife Raegan, Christy Strickland and her husband Ken; nieces Ashlyn, Ryane and Macy Strickland, and nephew Joseph Core.
Ashley was preceded in death by her mother Joy Core, and her grandparents Joseph and Lucille Core and Robert and Dorothy Cole.
To honor Ashley’s memory, we are holding a celebration of life on Saturday, December 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the home of Gary Core; 1309 Sunset Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408. We invite anyone who knew her to attend and remember her wonderful life. We ask attendees to wear anything that makes you smile; Carolina blue is definitely acceptable!
