HAMPSTEAD — George Herman York, 92, of Badin Lake, NC, formerly from High Point, NC, died Wednesday, December 6th, 2023 at Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, NC.
Born on June 26, 1931 in Ramsuer, North Carolina, George was the son of the late Roy Pierce York and Marietta Shaw York. He graduated from High Point High School and worked several jobs before finding his career as a salesman. First in the insurance business with Home Beneficial and later in the textiles industry with KenRay Fabrics where he remained until his retirement at age 60.
He loved sports of all kinds, hunting, fishing, southern gospel music and everything Tarheel(s) blue. He was a devoted son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished anytime spent with family, especially the grandkids, whether it was babysitting for them or attending their activities. He volunteered for many years at Wesleyan Arms as he helped care for his aging mother and uncle. He was a longtime member of Springfield Friends Meeting where he served as a greeter and usher.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Cole Gaffney and Shelby Jean Surratt Rothman and a son, Jeffery Mark York. George is survived by his daughters, Cathy Prince and Julia Warren and husband Mike, grandchildren Laura Prince Morton and husband Jeff, Anna Prince, Josh Prince and wife Mono, Ali Gaeta and husband Tom, Ivy Warren and fiancé Andy Knapp, Latham York and wife Taylor and Christian York, great grandchildren Lucas Morton, Logan Morton, Wren Gaeta, Breeden Gaeta and Ocie York.
A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held Friday, December 22 at noon at Springfield Friends Meeting, 555 E. Springfield Road, High Point, NC 27263. The family invites you to join them after the service for lunch and visitation in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to Springfield Friends Meeting or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
