ROCKY POINT — Sue Ellen Lail Tyler, 74, of Rocky Point passed peacefully from her earthly life Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Sue was known to all and affectionately called Nanny by both family and friends.
She was born July 4, 1949 in Statesville and was the daughter of Sarah Cates Tutherow and Sam Tutherow. In addition to her parents Sue was preceded in death by her son, David Tyler III.
Nanny is survived by her husband, David Junior Tyler; daughter, Rachel Johnson (Larry); son, William Tyler; grandchildren, Jonathon Tyler (Samantha), Matthew Tyler, Larry Johnson (Mia), Jacob Johnson, Dalton Pender, Jordan Tyler, and Jenna Tyler; great grandchildren, Madison, Jonathon Jr., Matthew Jr., Kaden, and Ava; brother, Tommy Tutherow (Carol); sisters, Barbara Tutherow, Judy Stone, Linda Peace (Bill), Dianne Vogt, and Lois Plankers; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sue “Nanny” was a stay at home mom who loved and cared for her family each and every day. Also, she was Nanny to all of the neighborhood children. Nanny was a true caregiver at heart. She was a wonderful homemaker and famous for her delectable hot biscuits. Nanny’s presence in our lives will surely be missed. She was loved and loved us in return.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Victory Christian Fellowship, 12646 US Hwy 117, Rocky Point, NC 28457 with Pastor Rocky Myrick conducting the service.
