WILMINGTON — James P. Martin of Wilmington, NC, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully journeyed into his final rest on Friday, November 17, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Born October 26, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio to Eugene and Colette (Pauken) Martin. Jim attended St. Francis De Sales High School in Toledo and went on to graduate from Xavier University where he remained a supportive alumnus. He later attended the University of Toledo earning his master’s degree, enriching his professional life.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army National Guard and was a controller for Toledo Edison, Centerior Energy in Independence, OH, and finally Carolina Power & Light in Southport, NC. Upon retirement, Jim’s passion for golf made him a founding member of the Traveling Retired Golfer’s Association. He enjoyed participating in activities with the Cape Fear Corvette Club. Jim also served on the Finance Council at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Jim’s most cherished role was that of a loving family man. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 54 years, Beth (Mang), his daughters Amy (Garrett Rightler,) Andrea, and Amanda (Steve Barnes,) his grandchildren Lauren and Brent Rightler, and his sister Sara Martin.
A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (6650 Carolina Beach Rd, Wilmington NC), at 9 am on Thursday, November 30. Jim’s final resting place will be the St. Rose Cemetery in Perrysburg, Ohio.
