WILMINGTON — Tonya Lynn Meares, 55, of Jacksonville, NC, passed away unexpectedly November 10, 2023 after a long illness.
Tonya was born in Charlotte and grew up in Denver, NC and went to East Lincoln High School. She attended Western Carolina University. In recent years, she lived in Hampstead, Topsail Island and Jacksonville. She worked in the mortgage broker business and in the restaurant business and did home renovations. She established and ran her own seafood business.
She is survived and sorely missed by her Father, Houston Meares (Shelagh Clancy); her mother, Cheryl O. Leonard (Sidney); her sister, Annie Meares (Justin Peltola; step-brothers, Shane and Sean Leonard; nieces and nephews and many friends.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Jenkins Funeral Home with Pastor Jerome Walker officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Jenkins Funeral Home, and burial will follow at Maiden City Cemetery.
