WILMINGTON — Linwood Eugene Richards, born on September 20, 1934, in Currie, NC, peacefully passed away on September 11, 2023 in Wilmington, NC. At the age of 88, he leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration.
Linwood’s life was one filled with dedication and hard work. He spent several years as a Nuclear Operator at General Electric, leaving an indelible mark on those he worked with. His commitment to his profession was evident in every task he undertook, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Linwood’s true joys were found outside the workplace. He graduated from Long Creek in 1953, and his passion for education stayed with him throughout his life. He served in the National Guard, where he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his country.
In his free time, Linwood excelled in baseball, showcasing his talent and determination on the field. Whether he was playing or simply spectating, he loved watching college games and sports on TV. Linwood’s love for community extended to attending church singings and gatherings, where his warm presence and joyful spirit brightened the room.
Nature brought him solace and peace, and Linwood found great pleasure in gardening. The beauty he cultivated bloomed alongside his kind heart, creating a serene oasis that reflected his gentle soul.
Linwood is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy, his parents Wallace and Flynn, two brothers, and five sisters. He is survived by his stepdaughter Sandra, stepson Hugh, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Their lives have been forever enriched by Linwood’s love and guidance.
Services to celebrate Linwood’s life will be held on September 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Castle Hayne Church of God, located at 60 Crowatan Rd, Castle Hayne, NC 28429. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Richards Family Cemetery, where he will forever rest in the embrace of his loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Castle Hayne Church of God.
